Drive-in Racking

A Low cost, High-density, Pallet Racking System.

OPTIMIZE | HIGH-DENSITY | LOW ROTATION

Drive-in Racking

This system is ideal for bulk-loaded goods with a low number of product lines and is ideal for last in, first out (LIFO) storage requirements. The design is very cost effective. Goods are stored in block systems, usually two blocks serviced by one operating aisle. Pallets are stored in deep lanes. Floor mounted Guide-rails assist drivers to accurately position their pallets/loads in these lanes.

This system ensures the maximum use of warehouse space. This system is safe in all conditions at ambient or freezer temperature. Goods can be accessed by forklift or reach trucks.

Storage Method

Reach trucks drive into floor mounted guide lanes between a side supported rail system to accomodate pallets which can be stacked up to 10 metres in height and between 4 and 5 pallets in depth. Pallets can even be stored up to 10 pallets deep. This system has a very low access and rotation of goods. Lanes are designed to accomodate the correct pallet load and reach truck specification, ensuring safety and economy.

COLD STORAGE

Drive-in vs. Drive-thru Pallet Rack Systems

The difference between a drive-in and a drive-thru pallet rack system is simply whether the bays have an entry at only one end, or at both ends.

  • Drive-in rack systems use a common entry and exit, while drive-thru systems have entry points at either end of the bay.
  • With only one entrance, the last pallet put into a row is necessarily the first one to be taken out.
  • A drive-thru storage system, with two different entry points, can also use a FIFO (first in, first out) storage method.
  • With a FIFO system, pallets are loaded in one end and are pushed back to the other end, where they are then at the front of the row on the opposite side. The first pallet put into such a row is the first one taken out at the other end.

Applications and Advantages

Drive-in Racking is frequently used in cold stores (refrigeration and freezing), which requires high density storage with fewer product lines. It allows as many SKUs as there are loading lanes.
